It is a pleasure to provide our community and beyond with an annual summer intensive emphasizing the importance of high-caliber classical training in an encouraging, professional environment. We seek to cultivate the talents of each participant – delighted to nourish the whole dancer – through a diverse spectrum of classes and performance experience. Each year features world-renowned faculty who come alongside the participant in unified pursuit of excellence in both technical and artistic expression.
Program Overview
The Summer Intensive provides a supportive environment that fosters physical and artistic challenge. Six days of intensive dance combine technique and repertory as well the opportunity to forge community and friendships with your fellow dancers.
Class Offerings
Ballet and pointe technique, classical variations, repertoire, jazz and contemporary. Guest Faculty includes Daniel Ulbricht, Principal Dancer with New York City Ballet; Danielle Diniz, New York based Dancer and Choreographer, Ballet Hartford Faculty and more.

PAYMENT SCHEDULE AND INFORMATION:
- Early Registration due April 15. Standard Registration due June 15 or as long as space is available.
- REFUNDS: No refunds will be issued if we do not receive cancellation notification by the Monday preceding the start of your session. There is a 60% fee of total cost for cancellations after June 15th.
- There will be a charge of $25 for all returned checks.
- All monies must be paid prior to the start of classes on June 20th. There are no exceptions.
- All fees must be paid in U.S. dollars.

Requirements
- All applicants must be accepted to the intensive via In-Person or Virtual Auditions held throughout Spring 2022.
- Must be at least 10 years old.
- Female applicants must have a minimum of 3 consecutive years of ballet training and 1 year of pointe since the age of 8. Exceptions are made for students ages 10-12 years old.
- Male applicants must have a minimum of 2 years of ballet training.
- All applicants must be currently in dance training and be able to dance four to five hours daily, six days a week.

Ballet Hartford does not provide housing. Below is a list of recommendations for housing in the Hartford and greater Hartford area.

Dancers are required to bring their own sack lunches and snacks with them every day of the Intensive. There is access to a small kitchen and refrigerator at the studio.
Transportation
It is recommended that out of town participants fly into Hartford Connecticut’s Bradley International Airport. All are responsible for their own transportation from the airport to the place they are staying as well as to and from the studio each day. Ballet Hartford does not provide transportation.
Performance
A performance is held at the end of the 1-week Intensive; all Intensive participants will participate in presenting Ballet Hartford repertory learned during the Intensive.

FAQ's
Is an audition required?
Yes! All applicants must audition via our In-Person or Virtual auditions. Upcoming In-Person auditions: Saturday, 2/5 in Monroe, CT; Saturday, 2/12 in Manchester, CT; Saturday, 2/19 in Hartford, CT. All applicants must pre-register by emailing hbush@ballethartford.com. Video audition opportunities released upon request.
What Health and Prevention guidelines are followed?
Ballet Hartford and its Summer Intensive follows CDC and State Guidelines for safety measures regarding COVID-19. All participants and faculty self-monitor symptoms, masks are worn at all times, studios and building are sanitized continually, and appropriate distancing is strictly practiced. All participants must sign a waiver prior to the start of the intensive stating that they have not been in close contact in the past 14 days with anyone who has tested positively or had any symptoms during that time frame themselves. What is the cost of attending the Summer Dance Intensive?
Early Registration: (Int/Adv Program) $25 Registration Fee + $475 Tuition = $500 Total
(Full Day Program) $25 Registration Fee + $775 Tuition = $800 Total
Standard Registration: (Int/Adv Program) $25 Registration Fee + $575 Tuition = $600 Total
(Full Day Program) $25 Registration Fee + $875 Tuition = $900 Total
Is there a dress code for the Summer Dance Intensive?
There is no required dress code. All dancers are asked to dress appropriately as is fitting for ballet work. Attire Guidelines: Ladies, pink full-length tights and black leotards with pink ballet or pointe shoes. Gentleman, white t-shirts, black leggings, black tights, black bike shorts, and black or white socks with matching ballet shoes.

What is the daily schedule like at Ballet Hartford’s Summer Intensive?
SAMPLE SCHEDULE:
9:00am-11:00am: Ballet Technique Class
11:15-12:15pm: Pointe/Variations
12:15-1:00: Lunch (Participants should bring a sack lunch and snacks daily)
1:00-2:00: Jazz/Contemporary/Lecture
2:00-4:30: Rehearsal
4:30-5:00: Q&A with Guest Artists

What kind of housing is provided?
Ballet Hartford does not provide housing. We recommend the Courtyard Marriot Hotel Hartford Farmington in Farmington, CT.
Minors who wish to stay at the hotel must be accompanied by and room with a legal parent or guardian during their entire stay.
*A shuttle to and from the hotel will NOT be provided for out of town participants. All participants are responsible for their own transportation.
Dancers are required to bring their own personal toiletries and their own sack lunches and snacks with them every day of the Intensive. There is access to a small kitchen and refrigerator at the studio.

Is living in host homes required for the Summer Intensive?
No. Students may stay with friends or family in the area. However, ALL students are required to attend all activities (such as Q&A and performances). Ballet Hartford does not supervise housing arrangement of students staying with friends and family in the area.
How many pairs of pointe shoes should a dancer bring to the summer intensive?
The number of pointe shoes needed for the Summer Intensive depends on several factors: the strength of the dancer’s feet, the brand of shoe, how often shoes are to be worn and humidity. Participants will be on pointe at least 3 days a week, if not more, in moderately humid weather. It is recommended that Dancers bring a minimum of two pair of pointe shoes with them for the week long Intensive.
Is there a performance at the end of the Summer Intensive?
Yes, there is a performance at the end of the Intensive. The performance will be held at Ballet Hartford, 224 Farmington Ave on Saturday, June 25th at 4:00pm. Family and friends are invited to join us! Due to health and safety guidelines, seating is limited.
